It is with sadness in my heart that I write you today to announce my resignation from the President of New Hampshire State Chiropractic Society.
As you may know, I started attending NHSCS seminars and board meetings with my dad Scott as a young child. I have always felt a sense of home in our New Hampshire chiropractic community. It was a wonderful honor to shadow and assist our previous lobbyist Stuart Trachy as a teenager, which paved the way for my public policy role with the International Chiropractic Association (which Gary + Susan Walsemann helped me to achieve!). I thought I would be supporting chiropractic through public policy forever … until realizing the importance of becoming a chiropractor myself.
Growing up with NHSCS instilled in me a deep appreciation for the role of organizations like this to 1) safeguard chiropractic, 2) elevate our clinical excellency together with continuing education seminars, and 3) connect our community in chiropractic family.
So it was a no-brainer to join the board officially once I became a chiropractor myself, and I was deeply honored to serve first as membership chair, and then as Vice President of NHSCS early in my career (over a decade ago). During that time, we saw our organization thrive with philosophy nights, shared clinical expertise from our very own members at mini-seminars, and significant growth in numbers.
After years out of state, I was excited to rejoin the NHSCS board - and honored to do so in the capacity of President. It has become apparent that my enthusiasm isn’t quite the perfect match at this time, and I am hopeful that the current board will be able to get organized and create their vision for our Society in a powerful and productive way while I recuse myself.
At our November meeting, NHSCS will be having elections for the next round of officers. The Society is in dire need of new and dedicated leadership. If you have any inclination, please show up and at least let your voice be heard. If you are inspired to volunteer and would like my support, I will gladly be available to you.
I am still as dedicated as ever to elevating our profession for the good of our communities and world. I will continue my efforts to advance chiropractic and help people suffering with their health through public education (especially an online community platform to teach people how to heal from stress- and trauma-induced nervous system dysregulation and encourage them to seek chiropractic care) as well as professional education in the diagnosis and management of an extremely common but frequently misdiagnosed condition. You have likely heard of Cerebellar Tonsillar Ectopia (CTE) as Chiari type I (it’s only diagnosed as Chiari when the herniation is >5mm). A 2010 study in the journal Brain revealed that 1 in 20 people with neck pain have this condition, and if they have any history of whiplash or concussion, the incidence goes up to 1 in 4 people. Consider how many patients you see in a week with neck pain, and how many have CTE (whether they/you know it or not). This is personal to me, as I suffered with this condition for many years. Chiropractors are uniquely positioned to help these deeply suffering people thanks to our ability to alleviate adverse mechanical tension affecting the nervous system - but there are some very important modifications we need to make for this population.
Some of you probably remember I taught a seminar for the Society about this over a decade ago … and more recently have been teaching the updated version for several chiropractic colleges.
I am still open to sharing this information for the NHSCS Spring Seminar as has been requested by many of our members. While immediate past President Matt Swiesz and I had discussed this possibility earlier this year, and my commitment to bringing this seminar to you in my home state remains unwavering, the discussion is still open. If you would like to see this happen, a call or email to nhstatechiropracticsociety@gmail.com would probably be useful.
Regardless of my role in NHSCS, I will continue to be your champion and chiropractic’s champion. I am deeply honored to serve you and our communities, amplifying our collective impact for good in the world. If you would like to stay connected, please email me directly at satya@drsatyawellness.com or find me on instagram or tiktok @drsatyawellness 🤍 You are also welcome to communicate with me directly about any Society concerns while the administration is changing, and I will make sure your messages reach the right people.
Yours in Chiropractic,
Satya Sardonicus
